We chat to Marty
from Marty Ashford Photography
Nina: So, Marty, how did you find yourself in the wedding industry, and what drew you to becoming a wedding vendor?
Marty: I’ve been holding a camera for as long as I can remember but over the last few years something just kept on drawing me to weddings, being around so much love on a regular basis is amazing and I’m addicted!
Nina: Interesting! Now, Marty, how do you keep up with the latest trends in weddings, and how do you incorporate them into your work?
Marty: I’m researching new trends, skills, listening to podcasts, reading articles every day that inspire me to keep creating magic for my couples.Usually, I’ll try to incorporate at least 1 thing that’s new into every wedding day.
Nina: Sounds like you’re always on the lookout for something new! Now, Marty, what’s the best part of working with couples during the whole wedding planning journey?
Marty: I think it helps that I’m a dash OCD with planning (ask my wife), so I really love getting into the details of the day.I love a good timeline session with my couples!
Nina: I can imagine that’s quite rewarding! Now, Marty, how do you make sure you really get what a couple wants for their big day?
Marty: Like any good relationship, it’s about communication. I am an open book with my couples, and I like to catch-up regularly with them so that I can achieve exactly what they want from their day together.
Nina: Communication is key, indeed! Now, Marty, when things inevitably go a bit haywire during a wedding, how do you handle it like a total pro?
Marty: I think that’s nearly every wedding day isn’t it? Something always happens that might not exactly be according to plan but that’s where the experiences of your vendors comes in handy, we’ve seen it all and we’re calm and collected about making sure the couple are happy and achieving their vision.
Nina: Absolutely! Now, Marty, spill the beans. Any cool extras or secret gems in your services that couples might not know about?
Marty: I have a couple of things in the pipeline this year involving 35mm film photography and another film related idea that I’m going to roll out soon!
Nina: Sounds intriguing! Now, when should couples start thinking about booking your services?
Marty: For me, it can be anywhere from 12 to 18 months in advance. Especially if you’re looking at getting married in peak wedding season.
Nina: Got it. And when it comes to budgeting, what’s your advice for couples?
Marty: Have an open chat with your partner and determine what moments are important to you throughout the day. If you want buzzing dance floor photos but aren’t fussed on the getting ready part of the day, maybe you don’t need a 10-hour photo package.
Nina: Wise words, Marty. Lastly, any sage advice for couples diving into the wild world of wedding planning?
Marty: Forget about everyone else, or what’s expected from you. This is your day and never lose sight of that, only do the things you want to do and not what others want.
