Sue + Gabe

“We were aware of each other but first met when Gabe attended my 18th birthday party at Koonya Hall, uninvited, slinking in as his brother’s ‘plus one’ and sleeping on my living room floor. We had many mutual friends through Gabe’s brother Julien and often hung out. During these times, I often admired Gabe from afar and had a crush on him. However, our romance did not begin until our stars aligned some years later”, explained the beautiful bride, Sue.

“Gabe planned a romantic proposal on a plane trip over the southwest but continually delayed due to poor weather and the good old Covid. Gabe got impatient, cut to the chase, and proposed at our beautiful property instead. In a moment of total surprise, Gabe got down on one knee and proposed in the most sweetest way”.

The bride and groom share a passion for the outdoors, adventure, and country life. All of these characteristics shone brightly throughout their entire wedding. “Organising the wedding was a breeze for us. The one thing we wanted to avoid was stress. There was no need for over-the-top styling. Located in the country, our ceremony and reception venues were already beautiful.

According to the couple, most people only remember the food, drinks, and entertainment. “We quickly locked in the amazing Foley Artists for the tunes and Rub it up Smokehouse for the food. In addition, we were able to secure the talented Lu + Lo photography as soon as possible”.

The Forestier Peninsula, located in southeast Tasmania, approximately 60 km by the Arthur Highway, southeast of Hobart, holds significance for the couple. “My partner grew up in this area, and we lived here as a couple when our daughter was young, so it’s a special place for us since we share many memories here. The ceremony was at a hidden gem in Bream Creek called Cape Bernier Vineyard”, explained Sue.

“Having tried on many dresses in Hobart and not having that feeling, I went to Launceston. As soon as I tried on my dress, I knew it was the one for me”.

“Mostly everything ran smoothly except running fashionably late to the ceremony,” said the bride. “We had a local lady conduct our ceremony who had been my husband’s primary school teacher. We arranged a local bus service to transport our guests to our ceremony and the reception at Dunalley Hall. Most guests were picked up and dropped off by the bus after the reception. Better Times Botanical made our major floral arrangements, and my beautiful mother did the flowers for the reception. We used all local businesses”.

When it comes to their wedding day, what were the couple’s favourite moments of their day? Sue sums up the couple’s thoughts, “I enjoyed the whole day. Getting ready was fun and relaxing. We had a lot of fun when the Kombi Krew picked us up and belted out tunes. I loved the ceremony, feeling all emotions and seeing all our loved ones together.
“Our night included time spent together, just soaking in the moment and enjoying one another’s company. It was an extraordinary day to treasure for the rest of our lives”.
